<Part 3, 4>

1. 독학 방법

(1) script에서 확실하게 안들렸던 부분을 적어보기, 잘못들은 부분 수정하기

(2) 문제 리뷰: '지문을 알아들었는데 정답이 틀린 경우' 상위어로 패러프레이징을 못한 것일 수 있으므로 따로 정리 필요 (두 문제 이상 틀린 지문부터 먼저 리뷰 + 알아들었어도 틀린 경우를 중점으로 복습할 것. 타이밍만 놓쳐서 틀린 건 패스 - 즉 다시 들어서 들리면 패스)

 

2. paraphrasing 원리 : 상위어로 바꾸는 걸 좋아함 (RC part7도)

=> 상위어를 모아서 정리할 것 (단어가 바뀌는 정확한 원리 : 동의어가 아니라 상위어로 바뀜)

(1) event > reception, banquet, party, ceremony, workshop, seminar, expo, celebration

(2) document < email, 제안서, 보고서, 견적서, 이력서, ~서

(3) item(최상위어) = 세상에 존재하는 모든 것 (생명체 제외) [가장 일반적인 단어로서, '물품/상품']

(4) product, merchandise, goods(제품)

(5) supplies, materials = 세상의 모든 자재/비품 (스테이플러든, 책 선반이든, 공장에서 쓰는 비료든 사업에 필요한 것이라면 무엇이든)

(6) electronic devices, equipment, machine > laptop, tablet pc, cell phone, digital clock

(7) liquor > beer, soju, wine

 

3. imply (암시) 문제는 긍/부정이 관건이다

Q. "I don't think they are going to build that building. I bet." I bet의 뜻은?

A. She doe not believe the project is going to begin. <= 부정

 

4. 대표적인 정답의 몽타주 (미리 생김새를 눈에 익히고 시험장에 들어가자!)

(1) 일 : work, task, assignment, project (업무/과제) <-> busy/start, begin/finish, complete

(1-1) 일자리

job position/opening <= 누구에게 offer 하면 job offer

job position/opening <= 누가 apply for 하면 candidate/applicant

=> job candidate/applicant 이 좋으면 qualification 이 있음 (qualified)

=> qualified candidate/applicant 는 interview 를 하고

=> 곧 hire/recruit 되어 employee/worker/staff 가 됨

=> 그렇게 취업에 성공하면 training session/program 참가가 mandatory일 경우 must + attend 해야 함

=> Optional 한 course 등의 경우, sign up for/register for/enroll in 하여 participate/take part in/attend 함

(1-2) 업무비용

work/task/assignment/project 를 수행하려면 expense/cost 생김

=> 나중에 company/firm 에서 expense/cost를 compensate 해줌. 즉, reimburse 함

=> reimbursement 를 받으려면 특정 document/paper/form/file을 fill out/complete 해야함 (서류)

(1-3) 안전

safety 를 위해 regulations, rules, instructions, directions, guidelines 을 explain 하고 go over (review) 한다

safety 를 위해 helmet/gloves/goggles 등을 wear 한다. 즉, safety/protective gear 를 wear 한다

 

(2) 서류

=> copies, sheets of documents, papers, forms, files를 만들어

=> hand outs, pass, distribute 함 => handouts, printouts, materials (유인물) 탄생

 

(3) 일정

calendar, schedule + 'have/take a look at' => check + availablity 가능여부

※ 참고 : 상품이 available = 구매 (purchase) 가능 / 사람이 available = 만날 시간이 있음 (free함)

=> 사람끼리 '~시/날/월 괜찮습니까?'라고 시간을 물어보며 일정을 negotiation 하다면 make/set up + an appointment

=> 주로 arrange a meeting이나 conduct an interview 하려 함

=> 때에 따라서 delay, postpone, push back, put off 하거나 cancel 할 수 있음. 다시 만나려면 reschedule 해야함

 

(4) 기계 : machine(machinery), equipment, appliance

(4-1) 점검

=> regular 하게 take a look at 함 (주기적으로 점검) => inspection 탄생 (regular, thorough, meticulously는 inspection의 짝)

=> maintenance work 를 conduct 함

(4-2) 고장

=> breakdown 하여 out of order, broken, malfunctioning, not working properly 하면, (기계 고장 상황)

=> 업체에서 send someone/somebody 하여 take a look at 함 (technician = repair person < 상위어 maintenance worker)

=> 즉, repari/fix/work on 함 => 곧 소비자는 help-assistance를 request 함

(4-3) 생산

=> assembly line (조립라인), production line (생산라인) 을 갖추고 있는 장소는 => factory, plant, manufacturing facility

 

(5) 사업 : business가 잘되면 increase + customer / business가 안되면 lose + customer, lose + business

=> business가 잘되면 지금이 time, moment, chance to + increase/expand 즉, opportunity

=> expand 하기위해 필요한 것은 funding, grant, investment

=> 따라서 investment 유치를 위해 seminar 하고 presentation 을 give 함

 

(6) 부동산 : real estate agency 부동산업체, real estate agent/realtor 부동산업자, property 부지

 

(7) 행사

catering service (음식조달업체)는 event (function) 에 food 를 supply/provide 함

※ reception, banquet, party, ceremony, workshop, seminar, expo, celebration < event(상위어)

 

(8) 물건 : product, merchandise, goods, item

(8-1) 구매

물건을 order 하려면, 나의 contact information/contact details를 type/enter하여 details/information 을 provide 해야함

=> 이 details/information 를 바탕으로 일의 procedure/process 가 진전되고

=> 곧 update, news, announcement, notification, notice 가 있을것임

(8-2) 환불

order 한 product, merchandise, goods, item 이 delivered/shipped 되었는데 defect 가 있다면

=> 업체에 shipping label 을 send 하라고 하여

=> return the product/merchandise/goods/item 함

=> replacement 와 refund (get money back) 중 선택 가능

=> refund 한 경우, receipt (proof of payment) 받음

(8-3) 할인

"~% off" = discount

discount <-> voucher, coupon

 

(9) 병원/약국

doctor's office 에 가는 목적 = check-up 을 위해서/get ~ checked 하기 위해서 (건강검진)

pharmacy 에 가는 목적 = my doctor 가 prescription 을 써줘서 medication 을 pick up 하기 위해

 

(10) 생각, 정보 : comments, responses, reviews, ideas, suggestions, thoughts, information, details, data, record, update <-> share, send, email, submit
